Move it Forward Monday, Caring for Ourselves and Community in Challenging Times
Rowana and I chatted about caring for ourselves in challenging times while also centering community care. In the tradition of writer #AudreLorde who calls self care an act of political warfare, we shared healing practices for self + community care. Listen to our full IG LIVE chat here.
Here are some takeaways from our discussion -
Community Care is practical: How can we show up with what we already have (creativity, time, our social media or business platforms to make a difference).
It doesn’t have to be complicated; we often have so much within us to share!
Create your own JOY box: think about what bring you joy (nature, creating, music, good food, etc.) and others in community (helping out a neighbor, friend, someone in need). 📌Write those things out on strips of paper. Choose one or two things to focus on weekly. Center those pockets of joy! JOY is resistance!
Guard Your Energy, Guard Your Heart (Proverbs 4:23): Caring for yourself and community also looks like saying no when you need to replenish. Give from inner abundance not depletion.
Faith without works is dead! Community care is more than seeing problems, it’s a commitment to doing something about them in practical ways. James 2 discusses giving when we see a need!
