Listen to Survivors with Writer, Activist and Speaker, Eunice Brown Lee (Move it Forward Monday)

LISTEN to our IG Live conversation here.

Listen to survivors. 💥Their stories, voices + truths. We caught up with @eunicebrownlee - writer, speaker, and activist - about her work amplifying the lived experiences of survivors through WomanSpeak.

She shares her own story of working to protect her daughter from abuse in family court, and how the root of what we see in this country is connected to the ways we dehumanize our own children (who are often pawns in the court system), and so many on the margins (folks within BIPOC communities, our LGBTQ+ siblings).

And abuse is not always physical - it is also emotional, financial, spiritual, etc. Understanding this is key to recognizing the signs. And instead of asking “Why don’t you leave?” an abusive situation let’s unpack the systems which keep folks stuck and understand how internalized oppression is supported via multiple sources - media, culture, the false ideology of white supremacy, heteronormativity, patriarchy, etc. We must get to the ROOT! 📣 📚Resources mentioned - the work of @thenapministry and @brenebrown.

Check out @eunicebrownlee for all the amazing work she is doing, and I will be linking to this live (and resources mentioned) on the @praywithourfeet website.

Eunice Brownlee has spent her life telling stories across many mediums. As a multi-passionate creative, she’s used photography, marketing, writing, and public speaking to connect her message to the world. Because the heart of building community begins with sharing stories, Eunice uses her stories to connect, heal, and inspire change.

Eunice spends time teaching others the craft of story in her speaking and writing practice. She has coached speakers in telling their stories with WomanSpeak and TEDxFolsom. Eunice’s writing has been published in Jennifer Magazine, Motherscope, and Spoken Black Girl, to name a few. When she’s not doing any of the above, she can be found seeking her next passport stamp and drinking wine.
